Yoga @ work: A plea to Brussels' business leaders
Yes, yoga at work is a great idea!
It is no news that the work place can be challenging and at times stressful.
Here in Brussels' area, I am afraid, the current economical crisis atmosphere is contributing further to this feeling of burden on worker's shoulder.
This combination can be the source of many health issue, and therefore, sickness leaves: this costs a lot of money to businesses.
Yoga is powerful tool to support businesses.
Yoga can help change the mood of the workers
- Conscious breathing calms down the heart rate
- Yoga fights back pain
- Concentration on bodily sensations drives the mind away from recurrent anxiety
- Yoga poses stimulate the energy flow throughout the body and hence increase individual performance
- And it continues with second hand benefits: colleagues enjoy the company of a blissfully peaceful co-worker.
Yoga can help and it's easy to organise
You will be surprised how very easy it is to practice Yoga in an office environment:
- no special room required: a meeting room cleared from tables is sufficient (chairs may stay as they can come handy for the practice)
- no heavy equipment (just a few mats)
- you can wear work clothes if they are comfortable
- no need to shower afterwards (according to a male student :' A shirt change and a good deodorant , it does the trick!')
Yoga can help and it's good for the company's face value
In an increasingly competitive environment, product or service excellence is not enough, indeed, customers also take into account companies corporate and social responsibilities' approach to select long term business partners.
Taking care of your employees' work/life balance can only do good to your image.
Why not start with employee's well-being through yoga?
